Every week, I speak with individuals from all walks of life, including patients, students, healthcare professionals, and everyday Americans, who are deeply confused about what it means to be pro-life. Misinformation is widespread, and sadly, it clouds the truth about what we do and why we do it.
As a board-certified OB/GYN and the founder of ProLife Doc, I want to help clear the air, because every life matters, and every mother deserves the whole truth backed by true science and compassion.
Myth: Pro-Lifers Stop Caring About Babies Once They’re Born.
Truth: Pro-Life Means Supporting Mothers and Children—Preborn, Newborn, and Long After Delivery.
One of the most common myths I encounter is the claim that pro-life healthcare ignores the needs of women. This couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, pro-life care begins with recognizing two patients during pregnancy: the mother and her preborn child. Our duty is to care for both.
Pro-choice rhetoric paints pro-lifers as ideologues who push a political position without care for the ongoing needs of mothers and children in difficult circumstances. In reality, pro-life clinics and organizations across the country provide counseling, prenatal care, STI testing, ultrasounds, parenting classes, housing referrals, material support, job training, and more. This is not lip service. It’s real help, delivered every day by real people who care deeply about the well-being of women and their children.
Research shows that, compared to pro-choice advocates, pro-life supporters tend to volunteer and donate more in support of charities that help those in need. They consistently back their beliefs with meaningful contributions of time and money because they care about life at every stage.
Myth: People are Only Pro-Life Because of Their Religious Beliefs.
Truth: The Pro-Life Stance Is Scientific and Rooted in Human Rights.
Another false claim is that the pro-life view is purely religious. I am a Christian, yes, but my argument for life begins with science. At the moment of conception, a new human life begins. This isn’t a belief. It’s a biological fact, an understanding shared by almost every trained biologist in the world. The baby has unique DNA, a separate heartbeat, and the potential to grow, develop, and one day spit strained peas back at her mother or learn to ride a bike. A preborn baby is a fully human person with a life, just like you.
Protecting that life is not just a religious conviction, but a human rights and even a patient’s rights issue. Every person, regardless of age, size, or stage of development, deserves the right to life. That includes those who are still in the womb.
Myth: Limiting Abortion Puts Women in Medical Danger.
Truth: Pro-Life Positions Do Not Undermine Women’s Health Care.
We also hear the accusation that pro-life laws deny women critical healthcare. Let’s be clear: treating a condition like ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage is not an abortion. In an ectopic pregnancy, the embryo implants outside the uterus and cannot survive. Removing it to save the mother’s life is standard medical care, not a violation of any pro-life law.
Likewise, if a mother suffers a miscarriage and needs medical intervention to remove unexpelled tissue from the uterus, that procedure is not restricted by pro-life legislation. Pro-life doctors like myself are fully trained to provide compassionate, evidence-based care in all medical situations, including emergencies, without any delay.
Let’s Focus on Facts, Not Fear
It’s time we move beyond slogans and scare tactics and start telling the truth. Pro-life doctors do not abandon their patients. We are here for the mother and her child, before and after birth. We believe in real healthcare and real support that protects, empowers, and respects life at all stages.
As I often say, “A patient is a person, no matter how small.” This belief drives everything I do, from delivering babies to educating communities across the country.
