For it was you who created my being, knit me together in my mother’s womb. I thank you for the wonder of my being, for the wonders of all your creation. Psalm 139: 13 -14

The Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center, located on Florida’s beautiful panhandle, works to protect sea turtles through education and research. Florida prioritizes preserving these endangered species by not only safeguarding their habitat but by criminalizing disturbing their nests.

Along Florida’s pristine beaches, sea turtle nests are flagged off, and signs warn that those disturbing these nests and eggs containing Pre-Born turtles are subject to fines of up to $100,000 and up to a year of jail time. Pre-Born Sea Turtles are protected by the US Endangered Species Act which was passed in 1973. Ironically, Pre-Born Babies were denied that same level of protection by the US Supreme Court in that same year.

Florida protects its Pre-Born turtles, and that’s a good thing. All of God’s creation deserves our respect and protection.

But the tragic irony is that while Navarre Beach harbors this conservation center for sea turtles, across the bay in Pensacola, American Family Planning advertises abortions for human Pre-Born babies up to 24 weeks gestation.

Do they not deserve even more protection? Created in the image of God at the moment of conception, and yet, Pre-Born babies are not protected by law. Of all the beauty in God’s creation, only humans are created in His Image, and we bear His image from the moment of conception. Abortion is an attack on the image of God.

While American Family Planning aborts babies at 24 weeks, neonatal units across the country are saving babies born at 23 weeks gestation! Hospitals across the nation are performing spine surgeries, heart surgeries, and laser surgeries on Pre-Born babies at 22 weeks gestation.

Doctors are even administering blood transfusions to save the lives of Pre-Born babies as early as 18 weeks gestation! When a mother’s body recognizes a different Rh factor from her own in her Pre-Born baby’s blood, it sends off antibodies to attack her baby’s blood. Her body recognizes that her Pre-Born baby is a distinct human and not her own body, but a blood transfusion delivered into the umbilical cord can save the life of her child.

This is Pre-Born baby conservation, and that is the most beautiful thing. This is God’s work, and He is there. He creates, He defends, and He protects. We who are created in His image are called to participate in His work.

Like the tireless volunteers of the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center, let us work to protect and defend human Pre-Born babies, one person, one legislator, one legislation at a time; but let us never tire of moving forward, protecting those who bear God’s image.

Life – it’s worth defending!
