In my years of clinical practice as an obstetrician and as someone who has devoted my life to protecting both mothers and their unborn children, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible power of compassion backed by science. In the fight for life, every heartbeat matters. Every child matters. Every mother matters. And at the heart of the pro-life movement are pregnancy resource centers that are doing the quiet, tireless work of supporting both lives in a pregnancy—before, during, and after birth.

These centers are often misunderstood–or worse, mischaracterized—but they are some of the most effective, life-affirming health and support organizations in our nation. They’re not just about stopping abortions. They’re about saving lives, uplifting women, strengthening families, and offering a way forward when everything feels uncertain.

Whole-Person Care at a Critical Moment

Pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) meet women in a place of vulnerability, when they are scared, overwhelmed, or unsupported, and offer what our modern healthcare system often fails to provide: time, compassion, and options rooted in life. These centers are staffed by caring professionals and volunteers who understand both the medical realities and the emotional weight of an unexpected pregnancy.

Many centers offer free pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, prenatal education, STI testing, and referrals for medical care. But their support doesn’t end there. They walk with women through pregnancy and beyond, offering parenting and relationship classes, material support like diapers and baby clothes, and connections to housing, job training, and employment resources. In short, they meet real needs.

This is not theory. It’s fact. According to data from the Charlotte Lozier Institute, pregnancy resource centers in America provided over $266 million worth of free services in a single year, helping nearly 2 million people across the United States. These are women who may have otherwise felt forced into a choice they didn’t want to make. Instead, they found help, hope, and a future.

Serving After Dobbs—and Always

In the wake of the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, PRCs have only expanded their mission. Contrary to common claims, these centers are not just about birth. They’re about building families and empowering women long after delivery. From postpartum support to counseling to fatherhood programs, their work is comprehensive and deeply personal.

I’ve had the privilege of partnering with some of these centers, and what strikes me most is their commitment to truth and love. No scare tactics. No pressure. Just facts, care, and support rooted in the belief that every life has value. And yes, that belief is backed by science. From the moment of conception, a new, genetically distinct human life begins. As I often say, “A patient is a person, no matter how small.”

A National Network of Compassion

What makes PRCs so effective is not just their services, but their reach. They form a nationwide network that provides consistent, local help in all 50 states. Whether in big cities or small towns, they are often the first and only place a woman turns to when she needs answers and reassurance. And when a woman regrets starting a chemical abortion, this network includes doctors who are trained to help reverse the effects of mifepristone through abortion pill reversal protocols.

This is real medicine. This is real choice. And it’s saving lives.
