Here at ProLife Doc, we are unabashedly pro-life and anti-abortion for both medical reasons as well as religious reasons. Dr. William Lile, the ProLife Doc, has repeatedly emphasized that it is a central tenet of the Christian faith to view all human life as good: “And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27. To purposely destroy human life in the service of no just end is to commit a great evil, which is stated explicitly in the fifth commandment: “Thou shalt not kill.”

In this moral framework, it is easy to see that abortion is fundamentally immoral: it directly destroys a human life to serve a selfish purpose. Abortion activists say they promote “choice” because they favor “bodily autonomy” or “women’s rights” and lots of other rationales that are made to sound benign. But at heart, the reasons behind abortion and those who push it are not benign. The fundamental purpose of abortion is a direct affront to God – it is aimed at destroying His image and likeness.

Dr. Lile makes this powerful point in his many speeches around the country. While some people may disagree with his perspective, Dr. Lile has received an affirmation of his point from an unexpected source: a satanic temple.

Governor’s Taxpayer-Funded Hotline Recommending Satanic Temple

New Mexico is one of a handful of states that allow abortion up to the moment of birth. Only one state, Oregon, is classified as more pro-abortion than New Mexico. In New Mexico, state Medicaid funds cover abortions, and abortions can be administered by “qualified health professionals” – in other words, by people who are not licensed physicians.

According to LifeNews, since Roe v. Wade was overturned, the number of abortions performed in New Mexico has doubled, from 4,900 in 2021 to about 11,000 in 2022. So far, in 2023, over 5,300 abortions have been performed in the state. This increase may be because the neighboring states, Arizona to the west and Texas and Oklahoma to the east, have much more restrictive abortion laws. In other words, New Mexico may be experiencing “abortion tourism” – that is, women from neighboring states are traveling to New Mexico specifically to obtain an abortion under its permissive laws.

New Mexico’s current Governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham, signed the legislation that has become the current law. In June, her office opened up an abortion referral hotline that directs women to available abortion clinics. Of the 33 clinics on its approved list, only 13 are in New Mexico. Included on the list is The Satanic Temple (TST) Health, which bills itself as “the world’s first religious abortion clinic” and refers to its patients as being participants in a “religious abortion ritual.” Although the satanic temple is based in Salem, Massachusetts, the clinic in New Mexico is staffed by nurses licensed in New Mexico and requires that patients have a New Mexico mailing address and be present within the state to utilize its services. It only administers chemical abortions, which are prescribed via telehealth services.

The temple has disgustingly dubbed its abortion facility the “Samuel Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic,” mockingly referring to the US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, who authored the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Further, by billing abortion as a religious ritual, the group has been attempting to use the Religious Freedom Restoration Act to argue, in court, that abortion restrictions violate their right to practice their religion. The group has already sued to overturn the abortion restriction laws in Idaho and Indiana.

Advocate For Life

To anyone of faith, the fact that this satanic temple is pushing abortion should hardly come as a surprise. The surprise, if any, is that we now live in a society where those who promote abortion as explicitly demonic feel no compunction about doing so overtly. After all, it is abundantly clear that the Governor of New Mexico and her staff do not seem concerned.

As dismaying as the situation is, it is also something that should fortify us. We know that in our fight for preborn lives, we are on the side of God. The Governor of New Mexico has confirmed it and made clear to the world that abortion activists are on the side of evil. Thankfully, we also know that our side will prevail. Even if victory does not come in our lifetimes, if we persevere, we can reassure ourselves that one day we can say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
