In July, Dr. William Lile, known nationally as the ProLife Doc, had the opportunity to speak to audiences at the 2022 FAMiLY Leadership Summit in Des Moines, Iowa, about his pro-life ministry as an obstetrician and gynecologist based out of Pensacola, Florida.
Dr. Lile’s “day job” is not much different than any other obstetric and gynecology practice, but he has been inspired to use his work and his voice to advocate for life on behalf of all mothers and all babies, showing the world that the miracle of life needs to be protected from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death.
ProLife Doc’s perspective is shaped by his experiences in developing his thriving practice in Pensacola. When he purchased his practice, he found, upstairs in the building he bought, an operating room – along with trays of surgical instruments – where the previous occupant had performed surgical abortions. Immediately struck with the horrific and cold reality of what that room meant, Dr. Lile made a commitment to embark on a ministry to advocate against abortion and in defense of the pre-born, from the medical perspective, so that rooms like that would remain empty forever.
As he is fond of pointing out, when a pregnant woman comes through his door, he has two different and distinct patients: the mother and the baby. And both of them deserve the best care that he and every other doctor can provide.
This attitude is shared by other doctors across the country, who now routinely perform many types of surgeries on babies in the womb, including blood transfusions, spina bifida correction, and heart surgery. In his presentation, Dr. Lile shares their stories and his own stories to inspire others with the awe and miracle of life and to make others–including other doctors across the country and the world – acknowledge the reality that if a baby in the womb can be a patient, then a baby in the womb is a person, entitled to life and to the best care the medical profession can provide.
