As a physician dedicated to protecting the health and dignity of both mother and preborn child, I believe one truth must guide our policies: every life matters. From the moment of conception, we are dealing with a patient—a person—no matter how small. Yet every year, millions of taxpayer dollars are directed to organizations that profit from ending the lives of the preborn. This isn’t just a moral concern. It’s a medical, legal, and ethical one. It’s time to say clearly that our tax dollars should never be used to support abortion.

Why the Hyde Amendment Matters

The Hyde Amendment, first passed in 1976, was designed to prevent federal tax dollars from directly funding abortion procedures. For decades, it had bipartisan support. It recognized that while Americans may differ on the issue of abortion, forcing citizens to subsidize it through their taxes is a violation of conscience. Unfortunately, that longstanding consensus has been under increasing attack.

In recent years, under political leadership that prioritized access to abortion over the rights of taxpayers, loopholes have allowed organizations like Planned Parenthood to receive massive federal funding. They claim that this money doesn’t go directly to abortion, but the reality is that it subsidizes the infrastructure, staff, and marketing that make those procedures possible. The distinction is thin at best, and it’s time to close the loopholes that keep this billion-dollar industry thriving at public expense.

Thankfully, there’s momentum in Congress to correct this. Lawmakers such as Rep. Michelle Fischbach have reintroduced bills aimed at strengthening the Hyde Amendment and explicitly blocking federal funds from reaching organizations involved in abortion. These are steps in the right direction—not just legally, but morally and medically. When government funds flow to groups that perform abortions, the message is clear: life is negotiable.

But life is not negotiable. Life is sacred.

Follow the Science and Protect the Smallest Patients

In my practice, I witness the miracle of human development. We now have the technology to perform surgery on babies in the womb. We monitor fetal heartbeats, track movement, and even treat conditions before birth. The science is clear: a child in the womb is a patient, a complete human being with a life of their own. Abortion ends that life. That is a biological and medical fact.

Supporting life is not about denying care or compassion. On the contrary, it’s about hope that we can work together to create a culture where life in all its stages is celebrated and protected.

A Call to Action for a Culture of Life

We’re at a turning point. Across the country, from courtrooms to Congress, voices are rising to demand that taxpayer dollars reflect the values of the American people. Most Americans do not want to be forced to pay for abortions. They want their money used to support families, improve maternal health, and protect the most vulnerable among us, not to fuel an industry that ends over 600,000 lives a year.

If you believe that every life has value and that public funds should support healing, not harm, I invite you to stand with us. Visit prolifedoc.org to learn more about the medical case for life, discover life-saving resources, and explore our educational curriculum. Whether you’re a parent, a student, a pastor, or a healthcare professional, we’ve built tools to equip you to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Together, we can make sure that our laws, our medicine, and our tax dollars uphold one truth: a patient is a person, no matter how small.
