When that first combined cell forms at the conception of human life, it has a complete genetic code derived from the contributions of a mother and a father, just like me, you, and every person who has ever walked upon the earth. With the first cell division, a unique individual begins to grow, distinct from all others.
As an obstetrician, I have had the privilege of witnessing human life almost from its earliest moments. That reality drives my work as the ProLife Doc. I have dedicated my career to sharing medical facts that reveal the humanity of each preborn child, highlighting the human rights issues inherent in the practice of abortion. Abortion is not just a choice; it’s a deep injustice against innocent lives. Through science and compassion, we can build a world that protects every person, no matter how small.
Human rights start with the most basic truth: every individual holds intrinsic dignity from the very beginning. What starts with one cell soon becomes billions. By six weeks, a tiny heart beats around 110 times per minute, visible on ultrasound. Brain waves appear even earlier, and by 15 weeks, the preborn child responds to touch. These facts from embryology textbooks confirm a continuous human journey, not a sudden shift at birth. When we ignore this biology, we draw arbitrary lines that strip away protections from those who need them most.
Equality means valuing every life equally, without regard to size, development, or dependency. History warns against ranking humans by such traits, and that applies just as profoundly to the preborn as it does to any other defenseless person. Legal traditions in the United States, including the Fourteenth Amendment, call for equal protection under the law. Many states already treat harm to a preborn child as a crime, recognizing their personhood in cases of violence. Extending this concept nationwide aligns with justice, ensuring no one faces discrimination simply because they live inside the womb.
Society has a duty to defend its most vulnerable members, and that commitment defines a compassionate culture. Laws that allow unrestricted abortion weaken this bond, eating away at the foundations of our social contract; however, pro-life measures strengthen it. I have treated many women with life-threatening conditions, both before and after Roe was overturned, and medical protocols always allow interventions—like removing an ectopic pregnancy—while preserving the mother’s health and life. All 50 states permit such care, proving that protecting the preborn never comes at the expense of maternal safety. Globally, most democracies limit abortion after the first trimester, and while that compromise does not fully address the personhood of the preborn, it does offer us a place to start.
This perspective mirrors other human rights efforts. Just as we safeguard the elderly or those with disabilities from harm based on convenience, we must extend the same care to the preborn. My faith reinforces this view, seeing each life as a purposeful gift from God. Through pregnancy centers, adoption programs, and community support, women discover real options that address fears and provide hope. I have watched patients choose life, then thrive as mothers or embrace loving adoption arrangements. Their stories testify that an unplanned pregnancy is no barrier to resilience and joy.
Acknowledging pro-life advocacy as a human rights cause helps create a society where every person flourishes from conception onward. It challenges us to live out our values through action, policy, and support. The preborn children we protect today become the neighbors, innovators, and leaders of tomorrow, all because we upheld their right to exist.
